Filing a State Return in Ohio? Bring Your Driver's License

  1. In a continued effort to increase taxpayer security, the Ohio Department of Taxation (along with other state government agencies) will be requiring information from either a driver’s license or state identification card. The information requested will include:
    • Driver’s License number
    • Date of issue
    • Date of expiration.
The Ohio Department of Taxation is matching state tax filers driver’s license number to state returns to help confirm the taxpayer’s identity. Currently, the IRS does not require this information to e-file your federal income tax return.

At Hall Kistler & Co, we will be requesting this information from our clients in order to safely and securely e-file their state tax return(s).  If you have questions, please call our office at 330-453-7633.

For additional information, please see the Ohio Department of Taxation website FAQs at http://www.tax.ohio.gov/ohio_individual/individual/faqs/individual/tabid/2766/Default.aspx?QuestionID=3787&AFMID=9539  Or the IRS website for new security safeguards: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/new-security-safeguards
